About KGM
ScrollSputnik may have stolen the headlines in 1957. But the first satellite in space wasn’t that year’s only successful launch.
As a Lloyd’s motor underwriter, Kenneth G. McNeil (Mr KGM himself) spent a lot of time talking to brokers.
When they lamented how difficult it was to get coverage that precisely matched their client’s needs, he began to wonder whether motor insurance could be designed with broker service front of mind.
And with that question, KGM's journey began.
Backed by trusted names who shared his vision for the future of motor underwriting, McNeil founded KGM Motor Policies – Syndicate 260 – from a London office a stone’s throw away from the Lloyd’s building on Lloyd’s Avenue.
Driven to create the flexible products his broker colleagues needed, McNeil set his mind towards revolutionising how motor insurance could be done.
Six decades of motoring evolution
A gallon of petrol cost five shillings in 1957. The world has changed since then – and so have we.
Many motor insurers have come and gone over the years. At KGM, we know that when you stand still in the motor insurance industry, you get left behind. Our staying power comes from a relentless commitment to innovation that has kept us at the cutting edge for over 60 years.
From our roots in the Lloyd’s of London market, we have become one of the UK’s largest motor MGAs.
Today, we are trusted by more than 1000 brokers and half a million policyholders, writing more than £200m in gross written premiums.
Designed to be flexible
Broker service is at the heart of everything we do.
Our broker-partners can speak directly to expert underwriters who have the power to make on-the-spot decisions. We can solve complex problems and customise coverage to your client’s requirements – down to the smallest detail.
We work hard to deliver a service that’s as adaptable as our products.
Brokers can access our services from anywhere using a variety of online bespoke quote facilities. You can quickly build tailored coverage through our dedicated broker portal, software houses, and more.
Whether it's online or face-to-face, we’ll solve your motor insurance problems, fast.
We also benefit from being part of the DUAL Group, one of the world’s largest international underwriting agencies with a longstanding reputation for underwriting expertise and in-depth technical knowledge.
We strive to be the agile and flexible alternative to the traditional underwriters.
